Bishop Castory Msemwa passes away

The Catholic Diocese of Tunduru Masasi has confirmed the demise of the Right Reverend Bishop Castory Msemwa (Diocese of Tunduru) , who passed away today at 1pm in Oman.

According to the Diocese of Tunduru Masasi Vicar General Reverend Father Jordan Liviga, Bishop Msemwa has died in Muscat (Oman), on his way to India to get treatment for his illness.

Late Msemwa has had a health problem for a period of two years, and has been receiving various treatments while continuing with his daily responsibilities.

He left the country on Wednesday this week to India for treatment before he died.

Rev Liviga has noted that the procedure to bring the deceased Bishop Castory Msemwa on Sunday in Dar es Salaam is being carried out. Further information on the burial procedure will be released later.

His brief background.

Bishop Castory Msemwa was born in the village of Kitulira, Matola parish, Diocese of Njombe on  13 February 1955. After primary school education at Motola, and secondary school at seminaries at Mafinga and Likonde, he entered St. Augustin major seminary at Peramiho (Songea), to study philosophy and theology (1981/1987). He was ordained a priest on 7 June 1987 for the Diocese of Njombe. He became assistant priest and parish youth leader in a parish in Njombe; teacher and spiritual director at St. Augustin major seminary; Student at the Teresianum Pontifical College for Spirituality in Rome where he obtained a Licentiate in 1996, spiritual director for the nuns at S. Gertrude Benedictine Convent at Imiliwaha.  He was Ordained Bishop on January 30, 2005 and was then appointed to lead the Catholic Diocese of Tunduru Masasi on 25 August 2005.
